So what is the difference between micro beveled boards and straight edged boards? When the planks are laid, the beveled edges create a "V" shaped hollow between each plank. Square-edged wood floors create a very smooth and refined appearance; it is considered a more contemporary option that looks fantastic in minimalist spaces. You can achieve a really seamless and sophisticated look with square-edged flooring, but that requires an experienced installer and a completely flat subfloor (especially if the planks are pre-finished). Any small difference in height between planks is more noticeable with square-edged planks, and some sanding is usually required before finishing to achieve the sleekest finish. Edge profiles at Chaunceys
At Chaunceys we supply both micro beveled and square edged boards. However, we recommend that square edge panels are delivered unfinished and are sanded and finished on site. Adding texture to a square-edged board, such as heavy brushing or band sawing (or both), is another option. When brushed or cross-sawn, the edge profile of a board will be distorted to create a less uniform edge; similarly to a micro beveled edge profile, this will make minor height variations less obvious.

How To Lay Vinyl Flooring
Holding a metal straightedge knife pressed against the crease, carefully cut along it with the knife at a slight angle. Press the vinyl in the angle between the baseboard and the floor with a bolster chisel, to make a neat crease. Cut the sheet along this line with a utility knife or scissors, then slide the vinyl against the baseboard. Unroll the vinyl and start by laying the longer side of the sheet parallel to the longer wall, approximately 25mm from the skirting board. Be sure to clear the floor space completely, removing any dust, debris or protruding nails - even the smallest piece of debris or nail will show through the vinyl.Straight Edge For Flooring
